Speaker

Mental Health is Contagious ...the best inoculation is humor.

In a single day, Steve Bjork’s family grew exponentially. He and his wife became the foster, and eventually the adoptive, parents of four siblings. These children endured a very difficult start to life, and they all carry with them varying degrees of PTSD. Life in the Bjork household can be difficult at times, but as a professional stand-up comedian for more than 20 years, Steve knows that humor is the best medicine.

Steve shares his family’s story with audiences in a sensitive manner and with uplifting humor that has been endorsed and applauded by mental health professionals.

Over the last several years, Steve has immersed himself in research on Early Childhood Trauma. He understands firsthand how difficult it is to live alongside and support family members who are dealing with the pain of mental illness. Audiences appreciate his empathy and insight. His program is a catharsis for caregivers and family members, as well as for those who, through no fault of their own, suffer through mental illness.

Steve was a keynote speaker during National Alliance on Mental Health’s 2019 Legislative Day at the Massachusetts State House. He has performed for mental health organizations, such as The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester, NH, The Attachment Institute of Worcester, MA, and many others. He has performed at professional education conferences, such as The Massachusetts Association of School Committees, and the New Hampshire Association of School Administrators. He has also performed at multiple Foster Parent Appreciation events.
